{Who's That} Accessorize With Feather Girl and a GIVEAWAY!-CLOSED

I'm so happy to have my real-life friend Heather over here today to show you her cute creations.  I've known her for years!  She recently started an accessories shop where she sells her uber cute crocheted creations called Accessorize With Feather Girl.  When she asked if she could be a guest over here in response to my call for guests, I immediately said yes!  You will love her and the cute things she makes!  

Thanks for having me on your blog Courtney!!  I have known Courtney for a loooong time and am always amazed by her creativity!! 

Heather's the name, crochet is my game!!!  I am a stay at home mom and have been for the better part of the past 16 years.  I started crocheting when I was about 9.  My mom would make little projects here and there and thought that I needed to learn some kind of craft .... something that I could, eventually pass on to my daughter one day.  I use her for a lot of my pics, because she inspires me to be creative and I am passing my love of crochet on to her!

I picked up my crochet hook again in December of this past year, after seeing some scarves a friend had made.  I got to thinking ... hmmmm .... I bet I could do that!! So, I got online to get some ideas of things and started crocheting again.  I don't make up all of my own patterns, and will be posting links to the ones that I have used, as I appreciate the work that others have done to come up with these patterns, and want to give credit where credit is due!  I do, upon occasion, try to find ways to make things more to my liking, instead of using an exact pattern. 

One of my favorite things that I have done is a cell phone case.  These were inpired by my daughter, who is 9.

  

I love these little "bags" They started out as IPod Touch cases, my muse was looking for something to carry hers in and asked me to make her one ... I could tell that the first one I made her was not really what she was looking for.  And as I was working on something else, I came up with the pattern for this. Believe it or not, I was making baby shoes when I started playing with this style of case.  The first one I made was a solid color, then I started experimenting with colors, stitches and buttons and this was the result!  There is a back pocket that accomodates a cell phone or ID ..or whatever you want!! 

This is actually the first pattern I tried! It was just a plain hat, no embellishment on it, but anyone that knows me, knows that I love "accessories"!!  I changed the size hook from the original pattern and added a bow and Voila!!  I LOVE these hats, they are fun and can be made to match any outfit or jacket!!  I love doing them in stripes to match Tennessee's favorite team ... the Vols!! 

My daughter loves headbands, so when I saw something similar to this one online, I got busy!!  I love crocheting different styles of flowers or adding crochet bows for fun and flirty looks!!

These are just a few of the things that I make!  I love being able to make something that will bring a smile to someone's face!!

{Who's That} She Wears Flowers

I'm blog swapping with the lovely Tammy from She Wears Flowers today.  She's here sharing a great organizing project.  Take it away, Tammy!

I’m so thrilled to be swapping blogs with Scraps and Scribbles today! I remember when I first discovered her blog and I couldn’t stop reading! She does so many fun things!

I’m Tammy from She Wears Flowers where I blog in the hopes that I can inspire others the same way I am inspired when I read craft blogs. I love to sew, wield the glue gun and spread on the Mod Podge. I am pretty willing to go with whatever crafty idea pops into my head. Most of my projects have tutorials and I tend to stick with quick, easy and very satisfying projects. I hope you’ll stop by and see what I’m up to!

Today’s project is super simple and has been fabulous for my kitchen! I have a really small kitchen—really small—so space is at a premium. Unfortunately, I probably don’t use it very well. I can’t reach the stuff in the little cupboards above my fridge so this is where I shove the stuff that I don’t use often—like cookie cutters and decorating supplies.  And by shove, I mean shove. (So embarrassing!)

I decided to do something about my mess and I started with all of those cookie cutters. I have a lot (Notice I didn’t show the other side of that cupboard? Much worse than this one!) so I thought I’d share how I organized them and made it easy to find one when I need it.

Materials

(I always seem to start with all of my materials, take a picture, then add more later—sorry!)

cookie cutters

binder

paper

plastic sleeves for binder

binder dividers with tabs

marker

cardstock

cover for binder (printable in instructions)

containers for cookie cutters

vinyl labels or regular labels

Instructions

Sort your cookie cutters into piles and decide what labels you will need. Since I used plastic shoe box sized containers, I wanted each pile to fit in that size box. This helped determine my groups.

Label your tabs for the dividers.

I put my dividers in alphabetical order in my binder. This helps when I am looking for something if the binder gets really full.

Trace each cookie cutter onto paper. (This is a great job for older children!) I only used one side of each paper and didn’t worry if I had some pages with big spaces. That way, I have plenty of room to add more as I buy them.

Insert each page, back to back, in the clear sleeves and put into binder in the right section.

You can flip through easily to see if you have a certain cookie cutter or to decide what you want to use for a project. The sections will coordinate with your containers so you will be able to find your cutter easily. Now I can quickly figure out if the frog is in my animal box or my fairy tale box without having to climb on a chair to pull them all down—I just check the binder first!

This also comes in really handy when you are using a different shape to make something. (Like hearts for ladybugs, for instance.)

Make a cover for your binder and then store it with your other kitchen books.

You can print this cover for personal use. Click the picture below to enlarge it and then print.

(You may want to copy the jpeg file into another program so you can change the size to make it work. I can’t figure out how to get it to print the right size. This file was made as an 8.5 x 11 inch size, but it tends to change by the time it is printed.)

Label your box so it is easily identifiable. I labeled mine on one end and the top.

There you go—done!

Your cookie cutters are separated into groups in containers that are easily accessible and a binder with all of the information also easily accessible. Here’s to hoping that when I get on the chair to reach above the fridge for something, I will actually be able to find it quickly!

Not the most exciting project, but so exciting to have these cookie cutters organized and the cabinet clutter tamed for a while!

{Who's That} 504 Main

Hey there! Happy May!
I just realized my kids are out of school in 24 days! Can you believe that!? Anyway, before it gets too crazy at my house, I am so very tickled to be here at Scraps and Scribbles! This is my first ever blog swap...so excited...thanks Courtney!

So, you just might want to know who the heck are you talking to...I am Holly, and 504 Main is my home away from home where I entertain, cook, create. I drink way too much coffee {mochas, please} and stay up way too late, and read way too many blogs! I love making a mess and sometimes that turns into a brilliant craft...and sometimes not. That about sums it up! Just kidding...

I am a former fashion designer, turned wedding planner, turned author, turned obsessed blogger. As for my style, I have a vintagey, beat up, discarded, slightly French, yet totally American aesthetic {confused? Me too sometimes!}. I like what I like! I LOVE repurposed crafting and creating. And I like things that sparkle and glitter!

My current favorite project that puts the twinkle in my stars is my Family Heirloom Wreath. I love this creation (if I do say so myself!) 

I am totally off base when it comes to getting organized - I used to be able to keep it all straight in my head...but no more, so I created my Family Command Center with Enameled Tags. It actually works  the whole family finally knows where to look to find out what's up.

I prefer to use unusual materials to create beautiful projects, like my screen wreath,

The crazier, the more unexpected, the older, the odder, the more beat up something is, the more likely I am to be inspired by it. Salvaging old windows seems to be my new obsession.

Did I mention I was a fashion designer and I love sparkles...oh yeah, I did. Well, I broke out my old sketches and glittered them up and I love them!

I also like to express my creativity in my cooking and baking...

{Who's That} From Blank Pages

Today I'm swappin' blogs with the lovely Diane from From Blank Pages.  She is super-terrific and you all are going to love her!

Hi! :) I'm really excited to do a blog swap with Courtney today! I hope you have as much fun as I am.

First, to introduce myself, my name is Diane. I'm a stay-at-home mom of two crazy little boys and a girl that should be here any day now (ok, I still have a couple weeks, but I can hope right?!) :), and I couldn't have a better "job".  I studied Art, Horticulture and German in college, and love to create anything I can put my mind around. I love the outdoors and doing anything that involves being outside. Since having a family (and small children) I've been a little more home-bound, and thus have picked up a joy for "crafting" (I still don't like to admit that I "craft". I prefer to say that it's being artsy, but lets face it. I craft.) ;) and sewing among other things. I opened up my etsy shop just over two years ago, db By Design, and last August I started my "new" blog, from blank pages.... The time I put into them definitely comes and goes depending on everything else going on in life, but it's fun to have something that is for me, and I love it!

Originally we were going to do the blog swap earlier, but I got put on bed rest and that kind of put it on hold. I was going to do a tutorial for a cute Easter Basket... but now Easter is over, so I think instead I'll share with you a couple of other projects that I already have tutorials for, and a few of my favorite projects.

First off I will show you the Easter baskets I made... there will be a tutorial coming. I just need to finish it up and post it, so you'll have to come stop by my blog and see it when it's done. I made the first one last year for my oldest, and whipped up the second in about a day for my second boy. They like to play with them all year long, as well as wear them as hats. :)

A few other sewing projects and tutorials of late have been this Scrappy Pincushion (I have a link to where you can download the pdf pattern for this)

along with this Phone Pillow Tutorial. This works for iPods, phones, eReaders, Kindles, iPads, etc. It's really quick and easy and you can easily adjust the size to fit your needs. I whipped up a lot of these for Christmas presents this last Christmas and they were a big hit. (Also a pdf pattern)

Besides fabric I also like working with paper. This is one of my favorite paper projects: Paper Name Mobiles - with a full tutorial right on my blog. Just make sure to keep it out of reach of children. My oldest ripped both of theirs up and I cried. ;)

 

I also always wanted to bind my own books and found a few tutorials online and whipped these out for some birthday presents for a bunch of girls at my church. They were so much fun! and now that I've had a little break from the mass production I think I'm ready to make some more.

Besides tutorials and projects, I also use my blog to keep track of "Fab Finds", all those great ideas and projects that everyone else makes that I love, and bookmark. It's like my way of keeping all my bookmarked stuff organized. I also keep track of "Bloggity Blogs", which are some fab blogs that I want to remember and keep track of so I can go back to often and not let them get left by the wayside. It's also a dual purpose blog and works as my keep-my-family-updated blog. All of those posts start with "Our Story:" So if your not into other people's families, you can skip those posts. ;) With getting ready for the new arrival of baby number 3, I've been a little more inconsistent with all the elements of my blog, but I'd love to meet you all, so be sure to stop by, say hi, follow along, whatever!
