{Trying to} Get Ahead

It seems like every time I try to get this blog back on track, something else happens that sets me back.  This week was no exception.

In the wee hours Thursday morning, while lying in bed, trying desperately to fall asleep, I was hit hard and fast with a nasty stomach flu.  Leaving all of the nasty bits out, let's just say, my commode and I are now very well acquainted.  And to top it off, hubby was out of town last week for work.  So, here I am, all alone, puking my guts up and still have to try to take care of my little guy.  That just wasn't going to happen.  It's times like these when I am so incredibly grateful for the wonderful ladies I know through church.  I called one of them up, told her what was going on and asked if she knew of anyone who could help me with the little guy for the day.  10 minutes later, she calls me back and has someone who could take him for almost the entire day.  What a blessing.  My brother-in-law came and picked up the puppy so that I didn't have to worry about him, either.  My sister-in-law and her husband came over that night to get the little guy some dinner and put him to bed (on her birthday, no less.)  And then, later that night, my brother drove an hour to come stay and help with the little guy the next day.

I am so blessed and so grateful to have such wonderful, caring people in my life.  I really don't know what I would have done those couple days without you all.  You'll never know what a difference it made to me.

Well, three days in bed with the flu kinda set me back on my homework, so part of Saturday and a good chunk of Sunday was spent trying to finish up my final for one of my classes.  Now, normally I try to not do homework on Sundays, but given the circumstances, I really didn't have a choice.  I worked on it til about 10 last night, and was only half-way through.  Our assignments are due by midnight each Sunday.  There was no way I was going to finish it in two hours.  So, I shot my professor an email, explained to him what had gone down that week and told him I would accept whatever penalty there was for turning it in late, but if he was willing, given the circumstances, would he grant me an extra day?  He wrote me back at 1:30 in the morning (mind you, I was asleep at 1:30 in the morning and not really checking my email) saying "No assignment by end of semester.  I did get your email, but must give you the grade earned by the end of the semester."

So, I got a BIG. FAT. ZERO.
Lovely.

All that work, busting my sick butt for nothing.  And that lovely zero brought my down to a C.  Wouldn't it have been nice to know that the night before?  I would have at least turned in what I had done to get some grade instead of nothing.

Sorry for the major venting, guys, but I'm just so super-frustrated right now.  I've worked so hard in that class all semester for it to end like that.  And there's really nothing I can do about it.

Ugh.

How were your weekends?  I hope they were better than mine!

What I'm Wearing #16 {a fUn Skirt}

It's Wednesday and that means it's What I'm Wearing time again.
To be honest, I did awful with taking pictures this week,guys-sorry!  Life is totally and completely overwhelming me right now and some days, I just want to curl up in a ball and pretend it's not happening.  But, I can't actually do that.

Anyways, you're not here to listen to me blather on about my chaotic life right now, are you?  No, that's what I thought.  You're here to see some fashion!

When I did manage to get dressed this week (I had a major research paper due for one of my classes and spent a huge chunk of my week in "around the house" clothes last week) I tried to put some effort into, due to the aforementioned paper.  Here's my homage to nautical :)

Striped 3/4 sleeve tee: from my sister
White tank: Hanes
Dark skinnies:thrifted American Eagle

Like my "I don't feel like really doing my hair today" look?  Just scrunched it and pulled the front part back-I'm so lazy sometimes :)

For the life of me, I could not get a good full-length pic of my outfit Sunday.  Don't know what was up with that.
Brown top: Charlotte Russe
White tee: DownEast Basics

Pretty patterned skirt: thrifted from Plato's Closet

And my yummy Seychelles booties.

I so love these shoes :)

If you don't know this by now, I love LOVE plaid.  My husband kinda teases me about it.  I don't care-I still love it.
Plaid top: Forever 21
Grey lace tank: American Eagle
Dark skinnies: thrifted American Eagle

Like my new bling?  Avon, baby!  I love stars and this necklace was just too pretty to pass up!

So I kinda mentioned at the beginning of this post that I've been down a little lately.  When the blues hit me, I turn to some good music to lift my spirits.  Sometimes it's uber emo stuff (I know I'm like a angsty 16 year old on the inside) which kinda indulges my blues for the moment and sometimes it's happy, dancing around the house music.  Right now, I'm in love with Mumford and Sons and Florence and the Machine.  Their song, The Dog Days are Over is sooooooooooo good!  I highly, highly recommend them both!

What do you do when you're in a bad mood?

Linking up with the lovely Lindsey!

{Whatcha Eatin'} White Chocolate Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies

The winner of the Thoughts That Stick giveaway never got in touch with me :(  So it's time to choose a new one.  If you're
#3 Ana Paula
you win!  Please email your info by the end of the week so I can pass it along to Julie.

In case you missed my blog swap over at The Craft Monkey, I shared this yummy recipe with her readers and now I'd like to share it with you!

I made these delish cookies with my sister-in-law and they didn't last long :)

White Chocolate Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies

You'll need:
2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
2/3 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 6 oz. package dried cranberries
2/3 cup white chocolate chips or chunks

Preheat your over to 375 degrees.  Using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar together in a medium mixing bowl until light and fluffy.  And eggs, mixing well.  Combine oats, flour, baking soda and salt in a separate mixing bowl.  Add to butter mixture in several additions, mixing well after each.  Stir in cranberries and white chocolate.

Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.  Cool on a wire rack and ENJOY!
*Makes about 2 1/2 dozen cookies*

These are sure to be a hit-your cookie jar won't stay full long!

Random Ramblings on My Weekend

Just taking a much-needed break from writing my massive research paper for my Ancient Greece class.  Anybody want to know about Socrates?  I'm practically an expert now (jk, not even close, but I do know enough to write a 8-10 page paper!)  My brain can't handle anymore right now.

School has really got me stressed out, especially these last few weeks.  I've had major tests, this paper and a huge final next week.  And I'm so lost in my web design class it's not even funny.  I thought it might be fun to learn a little html, especially since I've entered the blogging world-I want to be able to do more tweeking myself. Well, it turns out, computer language is WAAAAAAY over my head.  Luckily my teacher is super-nice and is trying to help me "get it."  So far, though, nothing's sinking in.

Enough of that.  What do you all have planned for your weekends?  Anything fun?

I've been taking the puppy to the dog park near our house the last couple days.  He loves it!  He plays til his little heart's content with the other dogs, then comes up and takes a 2 hour power nap.  Here he is, passed out in the car.  So cute.

The hubby and I got to go on a date last night. We went bowling.  He beat me (by a lot.  I'm an awful bowler, but I still like playing) but we still had a great time.

I hope you all have a great weekend and aren't stuck at home like me, writing research papers!

What I'm Wearing #15

What a week!  I am so glad that my semester is almost over.  These classes are killing me!  I'm super stressed right now, guys.  So, sorry if the blogging gets a little sporadic again while I try to get things under control.
But enough Debbie Downer talk!

As I mentioned, I've been feeling a bit blah, so I wanted something a little unexpected.

Striped top-Gap, with embellishments by me
Light skinnies-Levi's
Grey faux leather jacket-Candies for Kohls
Grey flats-Charlotte Russe

I LOVE this jacket!  I got it with Kohls cash AND a 15% off coupon.  I think it only cost me like $10.  Heck yeah!

Our weather here has been all over the place.  This day, it was a little chilly-too chilly for just a tee, but not chilly enough for a jacket.  So I busted out this plaid top that I haven't worn in AGES (don't know why, I really love it) and layered it with a bright tank.  Ta-da!
Plaid button-up: Paul and Joe for Target (LONG time ago)
Purple tank-Forever 21
Dark skinnies: thrifted American Eagle

What drew me to this top in the first place was the bright colors mixed in the browns.  Love the electric blue and bright purple!
{This is the night before I got wisdom tooth #2 pulled.  2 down, 2 to go.  Thankfully, this one had already "errupted" which means it was just a simple extraction and not nearly as bad as the last one I had pulled.}

Sunday it warmed up just enough for me to not need a sweater.

Mustard tee-thrifted
Satiny red pencil skirt: thrifted
Charcoal tights: Forever 21
Grey mary janes: Charlotte Russe

Love these tights!  I love that tights are "in" right now, because that makes them so much easier to find!

Monday was Valentine's Day and the hubs and I actually got to go out on a date {big thanks to my awesome brother-in-law for watching the little man for us!} and so, I busted out my fancy dress : )  I've seriously had this since last August and haven't had anywhere to wear it!
Pink ruffled dress: H and M
Black heels: Mudd (from Sears, I think)

I've mentioned before that I'm not much of a pink girl.  But this pink is subtle enough for me and so, so pretty!

I love the ruffles on it!  It made me feel so fancy and put together : )

I've had these shoes since my junior prom, no joke!  And I wore them to both my senior homecoming and senior prom.  I mean, I've worn them with other things, too, but that was their primary purpose.  And I still love them.

My sweetie and I-isn't he so handsome? : )

{Who's That} The Craft Monkey

Time to announce the winner of the Thoughts That Stick Giveaway.  If you're
#1, Sarah,
then you're the winner!  Congrats!
Email me your info so I can pass it along to Julie by Friday!

This week's guest on Who's That is the lovely and talented Heidi from The Craft Monkey.  She's got some fun decor to share with you all {You can find me over at The Craft Monkey today!}

Hey Everyone! I'm Heidi from The Craft Monkey.  I'm a craft lovin, decor changin, recipe tryin mama! I LOVE all things paint, paper, mod podge & glitter, but most of my projects look like they were completed by a 1st grader, and I'm OK with that! I'm always looking for new crafting inspiration and ways to keep my hands busy & my fingers covered in glue & paint! I recently opened my very own Etsy Shop, Craft Monkey Designs, where I sell some fun accessories! I'm SUPER excited to be guest posting here at Courtney's place today and really appreciate the opportunity!

I'm currently working on a Make-Over for our Master Bedroom, and I LOVE to create new decor for a space using old decor that I already have!

It's been a while since I've made a beachy themed project! So I thought today was  a good day to create a project for the BIG Master Bedroom Make-Over! Dun Dun DUUUUUN! In a previous post, I painted this frame.

I wasn't really feeling the tissue paper flower, so I pulled it off and decided it needed some seashells!  This whole project cost under $5, gotta LOVE that! I bought the frame for $1, and the 3 bags of seashells for $1 each, all from Michaels.  Pretty Sweet Deal!

Using my deadly hot glue gun, I glued some shells all over the frame. Easy Peasy, just painful on the fingers! {I'm horrible with the glue gun, I burn myself a billion times during a single project}. I didn't take any pictures of me gluing the shells on because I was afraid if I tried to glue with one hand and take a picture with the other, I would be putting my life in danger! bahahaha

Here's a look at where it will rest, which will actually be MUCH cuter after the make over!

It's starting little projects like this frame that get me motivated to complete a whole room make over.  Now to just start painting! UGH! I hate painting!

But OH, it'll be so much prettier once it's completed!

Courtney, thanks again for having me! This has been a blast!

Thanks so much for dropping by today, Heidi!  I hope you all head on over to The Craft Monkey and check out all the other neat things Heidi has over on her cute blog.

What I'm Wearing #14

Despite being super-stressed this past week, I did manage to make myself look presentable (most days.)

Thursday night I got to go have dinner with my dear friend Teeny, whom I hadn't seen in a while.  We had a lovely time chatting and munching together!
{Our new golden retriever puppy, Toby, wanted to get in on the photo-taking action.  Isn't he cute?!}

Mustard sweater: Kohls
Light skinnies: Levi's
Black boots: Rack Room Shoes

Saturday was a jeans and tee kind of day, but it was also a bit damp and chilly (hence the hoodie)

Graphic tee: Jedidiah
Black zip-front hoodie: Kohls
Dark skinnies: thrifted American Eagle

I really don't wear this type of tee all that often, but I really love the illustration on it-I think it's so pretty.

Sunday we had my mom and her boyfriend and his two boys over for dinner.  Here's me playing hostess.

Black tee: DownEast Basics
Mustard skinnies: thrifted Forever 21
Floral print scarf: Pac Sun

Ugh, Monday.  I did not want to get dressed that day.  So I kind of just threw something on {I didn't even bother to wash my hair or put on make-up that day.  Grody, huh?}

Grey sweater: thrifted American Eagle
Purple tee-shirt bra: Victoria's Secret
Dark skinnies: thrifted American Eagle

This one is actually from a few weeks ago, I just forgot to post it {I'm a little absent-minded sometimes, in case you couldn't tell :) }

White and black polka dot button-up: gift from my mom YEARS ago for my bday
Black tank: Papaya
Dark skinnies: thrifted American Eagle

Thank you all for your sweet, sweet comments each week-they really make my day!  I must say, I'm not actually all that comfortable taking all these pictures of myself, but your encouraging comments are what keep me doing it.  And I must admit, I'm a little jealous of all you ladies who con get your husbands to take your picture (and nice ones at that!)  You have to tell me your secret, because I can't get mine to do it without lots of grumbling and eye rolling and whatnot.  And even then, sometimes he won't.  Oh well, sometimes is better than never, right?
